Overview:

Join us for a 4 day 3 night trip to Sequoia National Forest! Weaver Lake is a 6.5 mile Out & Back trail that visits a subalpine lake. Enjoy the scenic view over our two day backpacking trip and relax during the stay at base camp!

The Trail

This is a backpacking trip that visits a subalpine lake in Jennie Lakes Wilderness – Weaver Lake just outside of Sequoia National Park.
We’ll hike the trail over a 2 day period, spending the night at Weaver Lake and the other two nights at base camp.

We’ll meet in Pasadena day one at 9am. Students do not need any technical equipment, though if they have their own camping gear we highly recommend they bring it. They do not need any prior backpacking or camping experience for this trip. Backpack weight will be based on the size of the participant but participants can expect to carry up to 35 lbs.

Day 1 June 26th- Camping under the stars – Cove Group site
Meet at Pasadena Rose Bowl on Monday 9am
As a group we will load up the vans and head out for our first day of adventuring. We’ll stop along the way to eat lunch with a view. Afterwards, we’ll head to our campground. Arrive in the late afternoon, set up tents and play some camp games. We’ll have a group meeting and make some dinner! Rest up because tomorrow we head out on our first day of backpacking 🙂

Day 2 – Backpacking begins – Weaver Lake
wake up, eat some breakfast then start to pack your backpacks. We’ll go over backcountry navigation skills and hand out compasses/maps. We’ll learn and practice the basics of orienteering throughout the trip. Participants can expect to backpack 2-5 miles/day for the next three days! In the evening, we’ll arrive at camp, hang out, cook dinner, and play games.

Day 3 – Weave to Cove Camp
Wake up early, eat breakfast and hike into a glacial lake! We’ll the morning eating breakfast and swimming in the lake. Then head out of camp around 1 pm. A three mile hike will bring us back to camp!

Day 4 – June 29th – Back home!- Pasadena Rose Bowl
Breakfast, then a short hike back to the van. We’ll depart around 8:30am to get in to Pasadena at 1:30-2pm. Pick up from the Rose Bowl (No De-issue)

What’s included with the trip price?

Included:
Transportation, food, cook-ware, backpacks, tents, park and campground fees, navigation classes, multiple guides with Wilderness First Responder training, all activities, 24 hr. satellite phone communication, emergency response plan, student leaders, and more.

Not included:
Sleeping bags, sleeping pad, hiking shoes, eating utensils.

Our highlights will include swimming in the lake, smores, trail games, back country navigation, sunset hangs, and camping under the stars.

Our number one priority for this trip of course is to keep everyone safe.

Action Plan:
In the case of an emergency our first response will be to the affected persons and then communication with parents/emergency contacts. For this trip the closest Emergency facility is:

The park also has a fleet of Rangers who are paramedics. Calling 911 will most likely result in them responding with Ranger paramedic team meeting the group with an ambulance. Austin and LeeMichael are both First Responders and have experience handling emergency situations far away from outside help. We will have a satellite phone, In-reach device, and full medical kit for this trip.

In the case that a student contracts COVID-19 or symptoms while on the trip, we will carry an extra tent that can be used to isolate the individual. The student will be given a rapid test and the best care possible. If there is a fever or positive test we will bring the student to closest emergency room for treatment and make an evacuation plan with parents. The rest of the group will subsequently be given rapid tests and monitored for symptoms. In the case that two or more group members have positive tests or symptoms we will return back to LA as soon as it is safe to do so.
